Well, it's that time again, time for the Christmas Crazies! I think my dad must've termed that phrase in, oh, 1975 or so. Way back when I'd get so ramped up for Christmas that I'd be throwing up excited. That's pretty excited. I've always been a Christmas maniac. I get it from my mother I guess. She was just a maniac. There'd be wrapping paper flying all about, and cursing, and general merriment. Seriously, she transformed our house at Christmas, through a little kids eyes. She did stuff that was ahead of her time. Definitely a forward thinker. I'd start in about my birthday in November and start looking for displays, ornaments, etc. This was "back in the old days" when Christmas really didn't start until Thanksgiving was over. No "midnight madness" sales, no take down the "back to school" supplies and put up the Christmas stuff. I would be over the moon the first Christmas display I saw. Usually it was the Nursery/flower shop that had stuff "upstairs'. I'd be hyperventilating. Since I was old enough to be allowed to, I would hang fairy lights in my bedroom. These led to pumpkin lights that went up, oh, in Septmeber, then right to the fairy lights all through the season. Then, came 1997...the year of the icicle lights. I thought,"what on earth could they even begin to think of next?" I thought we had explored every area of christmas lighting. However, I did see a "curtain" of hanging stars that you hang outside your door, up above, which I think is cool. And, I noticed really, really bright-blue/white bright LED lights this year. I have some tiny, teeny rice lights which I put on a white branch and they twinkle all around until oh...well last year it became a Valentine's tree. Why not? Of course, all this leads up to "the days that cannot be mentioned" (starting Jan. 1) when I feel like the world is made of mud and brown and everything just sucks and HOW can a rational person even begin to wait another 364 days??? Sometimes a good after-christmas find cheers me up a little, but not much.
Tomorrow is our Christmas pageant at school. Wish me luck. I'll be the one facing the kids and LOUDLY singing all the songs so that they can "whisper" them back at the parents. I just hope there's no a)crying b)shoving and c) flat out refusing and sitting down. They're still at the "cute factor age" so I guess anything goes. I'll post pictures, just for fun, thankfully none of the parents know I lead a double life. Preschool teacher/bad mouthed blogger. The theme is the abc's of Christmas. That's my director in the back. Those shirts were a headache, but they came out o.k. lots of glitter in the paint, that you can't really see, but boy do they LOVE to rub it off and see it fall to the ground! They are 3!
Finally, I got the perfect gift for someone tonight, just a stupid, last minute find that I thought, man, THIS is what it is all about. and it wasn't expensive, and it wasn't rational, and it wasn't even something I was looking for-it found me! I'm going to have a hard time sharing it. However the giftee I'm sure will let me "borrow" it once in a while. (I'm looking right at you Babs!)
